Compression Brassieres After Breast Surgery

I’d like to talk a little bit about compression brassieres after surgery, post breast surgery, which includes any type of breast reconstruction that we do, including primary augmentation, breast reconstruction, and breast revision surgery, as well as breast reduction and breast lift. Anytime I do a breast surgery, which is literally every week, we’re doing multiple breast surgeries, we like to have our patients in compression bras.
These compression bras can be LinderSport bras and Dr. LinderBras. The LinderBras have zippers in the front and they have compression along the sides come in different sizes. The purpose of the compression of the bras themselves is to reduce swelling and edema. It allows for the breast to also mold themselves in towards the midline to enhance cleavage and to position the breast implants where we’re going to want them to be permanently.
So compression brassieres are really important for my patients post-surgically again, to help to reduce the swelling and the edema, as well as to get the implants into a position that will be favorable in the long run.
Sometimes we have patients get their own bras. It’s important that they’re zippered and clipped in the front so that you don’t have to pull them over your head because we don’t want to tear any of the breast tissue or the muscle and end up with a bleeding hematoma. So zippered bras are really important. Clips in the front are important as well. It makes it easy to take them on and take them off.
