The FDA has now recently approved the Motiva silicone breast implants for sale within the United States. The approval came on September 27, 2024. This is the first new implant approved since 2013 by the FDA. Motiva implants are silicone gel filled and have microtextured coating. Supposedly, that reduces inflammation and increases bio compatibility and may reduce capsular contracture. According to Motiva, their implants have been used in 85 countries since 2010. Recently, an article in the New York Post published on October 21, 2024 that the approved Motiva implants have what is referred to as “Ergonomix” which is a teardrop shape and a circular shape that include the SmoothSilk silicone outer shell that creates, “a sleeker finish and more of a human-like feel.” It also states they are more bio- compatible with the body reducing inflammation and risk of capsular contracture.

I personally have seen these and felt these implants at several aesthetic conferences as well as the ASPS in San Diego recently. The implants do have a nice feel to the microtextured coating. Currently, I use Allergan and Mentor silicone and saline implants weekly and have for the last 27 years. I have not used textured silicone implants recently or in the past very rarely; however, it is important to see further specifics and data analysis of patients in the next five to 10 years of the use of the Motiva silicone microtextured implant to compare that with the smooth silicone gel and the Allergan SCX and the Mentor Memory Gel silicone implants. The look for comparisons including capsular contracture rate, rupture rate or any look for ALCL (Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma) and non-Hodgkin’s B-cell Lymphoma.
