Textured Breast Implant Removal Beverly Hills

On July 24th, 2019 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in action to protect women from breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) requested that Allergan™, the manufacturer of a specific type of textured implant , recall specific models of its textured breast implants from the U.S. market. These textured breast implants include Natrelle Saline-Filled breast implants, Natrelle Silicone-Filled breast implants, Natrelle Inspira Silicone-Filled breast implants, and Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Filled breast implants.

I am fortunate that I do not use these types of textured implants in my practice, however, since this recall I have had numerous consultations listening to women’s concerns and questions. During the consultation, just like the FDA has stated, unless you have symptoms such as swelling or pain near the breast implant it may not be necessary to have them removed due to the low risk of developing BIA-ALCA. However, many women have chosen to schedule the implant removal and selected to have smooth implants replaced during the surgery.
