Explains Breast Augmentation Surgery In Beverly Hills CA
Hi, I’m Dr. Stuart Linder, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. I’d like to discuss a little bit about breast augmentation procedure. A breast augmentation is a surgery where we place a breast implant either above or below the muscle. In 90% of the cases, we go under the muscle called the dual plane technique. I’ve done approximately 12,000 to 14,000 breast augmentations, implants, and revision surgeries in over 20 years. It’s one of my specialties, of course.
The implants can be either saline or silicone implants. Saline implants have advantages in that if they rupture, you know immediately and it’s just water. The disadvantages of saline implants are that they can look a little bit less natural and they don’t feel as natural as silicone. Silicone gel implants include the new gummy bear implants, which are a cohesive gel implant that even if you cut the shell open, they don’t leak any of the silicone, and so these are a really favored implant since 2018 and in to the future.
The implants are usually placed under the nipple and I place them behind the muscle whenever possible in order to maintain a more natural shape and to reduce capsular contracture and scar tissue formation. The two manufacturers that are normally used today in our practice are Allergan Pharmaceuticals and Mentor Implants, both saline and silicone.
Most patients ask for my professional opinion as to the size that they should go with. We look at the base width of the patient by an examination, looking at the inframammary fold diameter to help us determine what’s the best implant base size for your breast.
We use the Dr. Linder bra post-surgically for six weeks, and that helps to mold the breast, give you your cleavage, and reduce swelling and edema. All right, so our patients are put on antibiotics for a week, we give Norco often for pain, and we use a upper pole compression band on the top to also bring the implants down to a normal position.
